Uniform + Recycle = UniCycle!
UniCycle provides school clothing to students in need within the Metro Nashville Public School system by collecting gently-used items in schools and distributing them at the school level and through a partnership with the Homeless Education Resource Office.
We answer the question of “What can I do with my child’s outgrown school clothing?” while removing an obstacle to education for students in need, lessening the workload for MNPS support staff, offering more clothing choices to students whose families have limited budgets, and giving new life to clothing that is “outgrown, not worn out.”
HOW WE WORK
UniCycle’s inventory is 100% resourced from the community. Our primary goal is to collect and distribute all of those “outgrown, not worn out” school uniform items that cycle through every Nashville household with growing children.
Donations collected at a school fill that school’s UniCycle Closet first. If a school collects more than they need, extra items are sent to the UniCycle warehouse for distribution to students through the Homeless Education Resource Office (HERO) or to another UniCycle school closet. It’s a citywide network that works together to ensure each school closet has what students need! Read more about our mission, goals and impact.
WHAT WE COLLECT
Gently-used (or new!) clothing that meets dress code requirements! Clean out closets, or buy an extra when you spot a sale – it will all be put to use by students who will start their day with comfort and confidence. We collect the items below in all sizes – from the tiniest pre-K student to a grown-up-sized high schooler, UniCycle works for everyone.
- Collared shirts of any color (i.e. polo-style shirts)
- Shorts, Pants and Skirts in Khaki, Navy Blue and Black
- Girls’ Uniform Dresses in Khaki, Navy Blue and Black
- Belts and Leggings
- UniCycle partner schools with different dress codes generally collect whatever students are allowed to wear to school to fill their UniCycle Closets. Inquire at your school, or send us a note!
If your school is a UniCycle School, send items in with your student to be donated, or visit to drop them off – collection laundry baskets are usually found in the main office or lobby. If you’re not sure, check out our list of participating schools and community partner drop-off locations here. You can also always drop off at any listed community partner location or the UniCycle school most convenient to you – whether you have a student there or not!
